TWRA Sunflower Fields
The TWRA Sunflower Fields are AWESOME! I kept hearing about the sunflower fields and had no idea where they were. So, after a quick Google search I took a trip out there yesterday afternoon. It was a blast to walk around and see all the beautiful sunflowers. Also, if you are a photographer, you will love it. (I NEED to do a photoshoot there) It’s also free to visit!
I’d suggest visiting in the morning or evening so it will not be as hot and crowded. The light will also be better for pictures. I apparently didn’t think this through and wandered over yesterday afternoon. Still fun, but so hot. There were a lot of people there but it didn’t seem like it because the fields are so large. Most people went down to the fields on the left (first ones you see) but you can continue to walk the gravel road and will see a TON more on the right.
Knoxville, TN is beautiful and I love that this is a part of our city! If you have never been here then what are you waiting for? Get out there and explore!
How to get there
The sunflower fields are located in the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area, right next to Ijams Nature Center. There is a small parking lot at the end of McClure Ln. Parking is also available at the Ijams Quarries which is about a .5 mile walk on the Greenway to get to the TWRA sunflower fields. Follow McClure Ln until you get to the gravel road and you will see all the sunflowers.
Here are a few pictures I shot yesterday. The lighting was really harsh as it was the middle of the afternoon. I’m already wanting to go back and shoot more at a better time of day.
